Decoupage - Tidformera

Decoupage

Decoupage is an extremely fun old technique where you use paper, napkins, rice paper etc with varnish/glue to decorate. The word découper is from the French and means to cut out and the technique has been popular for many hundreds of years.

You cut or tear paper, glue and possibly paint depending on the surface you are decorating and the glue you used. Decoupage glue is a special glue with lacquer so that you get lacquer functions on a board. You can use other adhesives but may need to add varnish to protect the surface. Best results are achieved with thin paper and in our range you will find rice paper. A paper that is perfect for decoupage. But you can also use napkins, newsprint, pages from old books, wallpaper and the like.

Perfect reuse to liven up flower pots, furniture, jars, boxes, yes, anything imaginable that you want to give a personal touch to.

A few tips along the way

About Decoupage

Depending on the paper you are using, you may get a better result if you tear rather than cut. Rice paper is an example where things generally get better. Gluing rice paper into a Bullet Journal and using it as a background for a spread is extremely nice.

If you want to decorate an object, clean the surface, possibly sand. Brush on a layer of glue (white liquid glue or decoupage glue) and place the motif on the surface, smoothing out any air bubbles. If you use decoupage glue, you put a final layer of the glue on the surface, then you get the surface protected. If you use other glue, paint after it dries. In a Bullet Journal, it may be wiser to glue directly to the paper before placing it in the book, as it may be difficult to estimate how large an area should be glued.

This is another fun technique where only your imagination sets limits on what can be decorated. Extremely fun!
