    Should I have scissors or a modeling knife? It all depends on what you're going to do. Small scissors with a small sharp edge are good for both cutting out patterns in paper and cutting washi tape.

    But if you're going to make, for example, Dutch doors in a Bullet Journal? Then the result will be much nicer with a model knife and a cutting mat.

    What do you even need a cutting mat for? The cutting mat is used with model knives. It protects the surface and gives the knife the right resistance when you cut. It also has guide lines that help you get better results. The blade also stays sharper longer.
