Decoupage

Decoupage - Decorate objects and create beautiful journal spreads

Decoupage is an extremely fun old technique where you use paper, napkins, rice paper etc. with varnish/glue to decorate. The word découper comes from the French and means to cut out and the technique has been popular for many hundreds of years.

You cut or tear paper, glue and possibly varnish depending on which surface you are decorating and which glue you have used. Decoupage glue is a special glue with varnish so that you get varnish functions on a board. You can use other glues but may need to add varnish to protect the surface. Best results are achieved with thin paper and in our range you will find rice paper. A paper that is perfect for decoupage. But you can also use napkins, newspaper, pages from old books, wallpaper and the like.

Perfect for repurposing flower pots, furniture, jars, boxes, anything you can think of that you want to add a personal touch to.

A few tips along the way:

Depending on the paper you are using, you may get a better result if you tear instead of cut. Rice paper is an example where it generally works better. Gluing rice paper into a Bullet Journal and using it as a background on spreads is extremely nice.

If you are going to decorate an object, clean the surface, possibly sand it. Brush out a layer of glue (white liquid glue or decoupage glue) and place the motif on the surface, smoothing out any air bubbles. If you use decoupage glue, apply a final layer of glue to the surface, this will protect the surface. If you use another glue, varnish it after it has dried.

In a Bullet Journal, it may be wiser to glue directly onto the paper before placing it in the book as it can be difficult to estimate how large an area to glue. This is another fun technique where only your imagination sets limits on what can be decorated.
