Liquitex is a company founded by color chemist Henry Levison in 1955. He experimented with new formulas in acrylic paints, and in the early 1900s, acrylic paints were solvent-based artist paints. In 1955, Henry had developed a water-based acrylic, the first acrylic gesso, which was then called Liquitex, the perfect blend of liquid and texture.
